Statement Pavement

There's nothing like a pair of statement shoes with its backdrop the pavement.  It's like putting pen to paper - it can tell a story...

Statement shoes.  Super important.  Enough said.

Preying for Direction

Weightless and effortless is how this dress appears but that is just one charming side of this Lanvin one shoulder delight.  When I laid my eyes on this runway SS09 Lanvin dress I knew I would have to starve myself into oblivion to have it - but oh so justifiable!  Alber Elbaz of Lanvin is a master of creating seamless draping, endless folds and amazing silhouettes all keeping within the wondrous Parisian chic aesthetic.  Now just over two years on, this dress still remains relevant with it's aqua blue based fun leopard print which lends a preyful... errhhh playful tone.  Keeping in line with the story of my life, these Nicholas Kirkwood heels were as hard to find as you'd imagine but glory hallelujah these directional aqua sprayed suede heels with lattice detailing were tracked down and added to the pack.  My outfit is comprised of pieces I have had in my repertoire for a while now and it felt great to breathe  new life into them. Revive and survive people! The key is to L.O.V.E what you invest in from the minute you lay your credit card on the line (Savings, I meant savings!)

Purple Reign

After great analysis, I've decided to blame Prince for my attraction to purple.  Yes, my exposure to the 1984 movie/soundtrack has guided me to purple. Now I know this sounds like I've not got anything better to do but analyse why I enjoy the colour purple but sometimes, these things are important - to me - just because.  During another seemingly unrelated self-analysis I noticed when it comes to great vintage finds I have officially diagnosed myself as a sufferer of retro-fash amnesia!  I don't know how to sift through the clothes of yester-year and pluck a treasure.  It's as if my keen eye for anything amazing and the ability to incorporate it into my wardrobe escapes me!  I did get lucky however with this early 80's vintage YSL jacket - and it's purple!! What a win! Well purple primarily, the 80's definitely had a knack for colour explosion...

P.S That delightful little iphone snap at the bottom features Gok Wan.  Yes, I often love a good Gok's Fashion Fix re-run especially at 4am after a night out (it just makes sense) and yes I did go visit my local shopping mall as Gok happened to be appearing live and yes I do basically love Auntie Gok...

Trapeze Acts

I have had this Alexander McQueen trapeze dress for some time now and figured it doesn’t belong in the closet unseen…. Yeah did I mention it had never been worn? What’s wrong with me? (Note briefly, this is a separate issue that will not be addressed in today’s post *cleansing breath*).  The draping in this dress is beautiful and can still be appreciated even when belted.  The flesh tone panel allows for a nude shoe play which let’s face it; anything that helps the legs look longer is a-ok with me!  To ensure I didn’t look like a walking reflector and in a bid to welcome spring on the scene, my Alexander McQueen De Manta clutch added some good ol’ fashion folklore.

P.S Get Studly! Studs are definitely the fool proof way of adding some rock’n’roll to any pretty outfit. Practice Tough Love <3

Gl-Armour

Recently attending a charity ball with a ‘desert glamour’ dress code allowed for some artistic expression.  I opted for a Diane Von Furstenburg gown with antique gold scale sequins that form an armour-like bodice paired with layered black chiffon.  Choosing accessories with gilded-esque gold accenting and stud embellishment aided in complimenting the armour effect.  As you may have noticed from previous posts, I do enjoy a good mix-up or ‘accessories salad’ if you will, that all seem to work together in harmony (cheesy but don’t it sound pleasing!).  Insert chain necklace with delicate leaf adorned shoes and voila you have full body desert gl-armour. Joy!

Balenc-ing Act

The Balenciaga runway cutout boots were definitely on my lust list for the whole SS11 season. I recently acquired them...through phone calls to many international cities, endless emails and a very helpful assistant at the Balenciaga Vegas store. Yes, I am fully aware that this epic feat may have tipped the scale of sanity but wow the happiness they did bring!! They almost remind me of a penny loafer x motorcycle boot hybrid but these edgy, masculine, punk style boots allows for more feminine styling than first imagined. I always enjoy an androgynous militarian twist to an otherwise tailored/chic look and these boots work just a treat!

Ba-Roque my world...

Prada's Minimal Baroque sunglasses appear to be a style paradox.  At the risk of being Captain Obvious - it's safe to say these sunglasses are far from the standard idea of the minimalism trend.  Nonetheless, how fabulous are they!  Featuring classic curves and sweeping motion shown through swirls that you expect of baroque but that's about where the traditional baroque technique ends.  With the pop of the cobalt blue and the freshness of white I can see these shades becoming a much sought after retro fave!
